Getting started

Output modes: code & image

When creating a project, choose code mode for editable pages or image mode for full-page images. Your choice carries through preview and export.

Two output modes

Convas offers two output paths: code mode produces editable presentation pages; image mode produces full-page images. You confirm once when creating a project; afterward the workspace header shows a read-only badge (e.g. “Code mode · 16:9”).

Code mode

  • Output is editable deck pages—ideal for reports, data, and ongoing iteration.
  • Click to edit copy and numbers on the canvas; use the refine panel for charts and visuals.
  • The Tweak rail adjusts global colors, typography, and more (code mode only).
  • Export PDF, PPTX, and images; PPTX may remain editable in PowerPoint depending on content.

Image mode

  • Output is full-page images—strong visual impact for brand and mood-driven decks.
  • Revisions usually mean describing changes in chat and regenerating slides.
  • The Tweak rail is not available; click-to-refine is limited.
  • Export focuses on PDF and images (bitmap delivery).

At a glance

  • Output: code → editable pages; image → full-page images.
  • Edits: code → canvas click + refine + chat; image → mostly regenerate via chat.
  • Charts: code → supported, editable data on canvas; image → generally not editable.
  • Tweak rail: code → yes; image → no.
  • Best for: code → data, business, iteration; image → brand, atmosphere, visual punch.

When you choose

When you create a project, the Agent asks about topic, audience, aspect ratio, and output mode in the Clarify flow. After you submit or skip, format and ratio lock and the canvas header shows the badge.

If your account preferences set a default output mode, creation may lock immediately without asking. Adjust defaults in Settings.

How to choose

  • Need to edit copy, numbers, charts, or tweak often → code mode.
  • Want cinematic visuals, brand consistency, minimal fine-tuning → image mode.
  • Unsure: tables or business reports → code mode; pure visual showcase → image mode.
